Original Pin-Up Girl Art by Brian Tull

Sep/Oct 2021 edition
Issue #18 AutoMobilia Resource Magazine
Allen Spurlin
BrianTullArtist.jpg

Pictured on this issue's cover, this incredible painting can be found behind the band stage inside Fat Kat Slim’s, which  is located at 730 8th Avenue South in Nashville, TN.

The two-story Fat Kat Slim’s is a “mid-century American bar and restaurant inspired by custom culture and retro vibes.” This eclectic 1950s restaurant/bar/club is definitely carcentric, and you may check them out at FatKatSlims.com.

The painting took artist Brian Tull 19 full days to paint, and cost $10,000. The car is a 1956 Chevy convertible owned by a local car collector, Larry King. The model, Bonnie Valentine, is a professional pin-up model and burlesque performer.

Brian used Sherwin Williams paints, a few good brushes and “a whole lot of faith.” At 16' wide by 10' tall, it makes a great impression. Bonnie is not only a model, but did the interior design featuring Japanese lanterns, retro 1950s decor and more.
BrianTullArt.jpg

Brian is currently working on a few commissions and hopes to get back to painting gallery inventory for Tinney Contemporary, Quidley & Company Fine Art and Ric Michel Fine Art.

If you’re interested in commissioning Brian, his murals typically range from $7,500 to $23,500. His large scale photorealism paintings range from $25,000 to $35,000. He can be reached at 615-945-5807 in Tennessee, Brian@BrianTull.com or go to BrianTull.com.

Many of his pin-ups were reproduced as nose art on military aircraft during WW II. Around 1944, Gil was approached by Brown and Bigelow, where he began working with 30″×24″ canvases, a format he would use for the next 30 years, and signed his work in cursive.  Want this one or have a pin-up you would like to see featured on our retro pin-up page?  Send me an e-mail.

  • Price - $285 plus $15.00 shipping

Features, the very famous ice-skater image. Veedol Motor Oil was a part of the Tide Water Associated Oil Company.

Veedol’s advertisements touted their oil as “100% Pennsylvania”, “The World’s Most Famous Motor Oil” and also claimed they “Improved Performance in Three Ways.”

But, undoubtedly what brought the company the most publicity was their beautiful and colorful calendar girl promotions. Slightly sexy, yet not too risqué, these images could (almost) conjure up thoughts of the girl next door.

Technique: Giclee print on canvas
Canvas: High quality canvas • 12” x 14.75”
Latex ink: Solvent-free, UV resistant

Shipped from: China

This is a classic vintage style pin-up Poster originally published in the 1960s. This Poster, by Gil Elvgren - one of the most famous and respected pin-up artists of the twentieth century, is from the canvas oil painting of the same name.

Gillette Elvgren was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he worked in his father’s paint store. He created billboard, poster and magazine artwork, but is most famous for his pin-up girls. The “Elvgren Girl” was known for her sweet, sexy and innocent demeanor from the late 1930s through the early 1970s.

This classic pin-up poster honors the beauty of this unique art form and evokes the vivid images of simpler times. She’s beautiful!

Want it?  Buy this one for our cost of $10 plus $10 shipping.  It’s on canvas and slightly wrinkled but should frame out nicely.  (a very nice fellow from Germany has already bought it!)
