In 1937, Gil Elvgren began painting calendar pin-ups for one of America’s leading publishing co’s, where he created about 60 works on 28″×22″ canvas with a distinguishing printed signature. Many of his pin-ups were reproduced as nose art on military aircraft during WW II.
