AutoMotorPlex - GarageLife Column
Redefining how we use the garage!
There is a new trend sweeping the nation, from Arizona to Minnesota to Florida, and beyond… Car Condos. Our “Garage Living” column takes a direct look at some of the wonderful automotive collectibles - automobilia - found in many of these private car spaces. These Car Condo communities are much more than just a place to park your car; they’re a lifestyle that is being embraced by car aficionados of sports, classic, racing, exotics, hot rods and well... collectible cars! Each unit is almost always a blank canvas when bought, to be decorated by their owners, and usually filled with automobilia. There are some real treasures to be found in many of these spaces. This occasional column will feature an inside view to some of the fantastic “automobilia décor” held within these private Car Condo communities. |

Issue #5 May/June 2019 On the French Island of Corsica, August 9, 1970... an 11-year-old boy shopping with his dad, hands his dad a motorsport magazine he wants to buy instead of his usual comics… “Are you sure?” his dad asks in disbelief. “Yes Dad, pleeeaaaase!” On the cover was a Gulf blue and orange Porsche 917 charging through the rain during the “24 Hours of Le Mans” with the title Porsche, finally! That was the beginning of how I got hooked on and connected to motorsport and Porsche! |
How a Shell Gas Station Set the Stage for My Life.Issue #6 July/Aug 2019
Finding a 1½ HP engine, led 17-year-old Dave down a path of affixing that engine to things. He then convinced his parents to let him buy a 1957 Chevrolet Convertible, which had to be pushed off of the dealer’s lot. All these endeavors took money, so Dave, the oldest of 5 siblings, started work at a Texaco full service gas station.
