Greeting you outside the Savoy Automobile Museum is a huge stainless steel sculpture standing 26 feet tall and 40 feet long, of an automotive hood emblem named “The Spirit Of Speed,” designed by Irish sculptor Linda Brunkner.

Savoy Automobile Museum was named after a 1954 Plymouth Savoy car that was discovered during the excavation of the building’s foundation. The museum has dedicated its efforts to the community by building a theater space for social events, historical lectures, conferences and discussions from the automobile world. They have supported automotive artists by purchasing and displaying their impressive craft throughout the museum. This outstanding collection of classic cars, memorabilia, and artistic renderings is collectively intriguing and remarkably well presented.

Model car display cases are found throughout the museum. From top: Mercedes 300SL and Duesenberg SSJ; Hudson, Tucker, and Kaiser; and a model of a Champion pedal car.

Automobilia at Savoy Automobile Museum: The museum halls display eclectic artist renderings from: Mark Boomershine, Robert Carter, Bobbie Crews, Michael Goettee, Allan Gorman, Lory Lockwood, Thiago Romero, Billy Schenck, L.A. Stevens, Michael J. Sponholtz, Richard Webb, and Dennis Ziemienski to name a few. They are all talented and their art complements the variety of cars, from the Pink Lady to the Big Easy, appealing to all generations. There are also numerous display cases with hundreds of model cars representing the past and current attractions from the five exhibition galleries. Not to miss is their automotive-themed café with an impressive array of memorabilia on its circular themed walls. Last, but certainly not least, the classic cars themselves display beautiful mascots, historic license plates, badges and more.

There are some really great old license plates, including these two from Illinois adorning a 1932 Ruxton Model C and a 1933 Pierce Arrow, respectively.

Museum tip: The museum has five exhibition galleries.  One is the permanent Savoy Collection.  The other four are rotating galleries which change themes every four to six weeks.  Themes range from American Racing to Woodies and Art Deco.  Be sure to check their exhibition calendar before you go!
