After a two-year hiatus, Toby Sutton returns to making his wonderful carved wood 1:20 scale model cars. Each is made to order, and by hand in his home-based workshop in England. Toby’s latest pieces are a superb Alfa Romeo Alfetta Grand Prix car, and a Mercedes-Benz W196 Streamliner. Previous models have included Jaguar C and D Types, an Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 MM Spyder, and others.  Each body is made of English Walnut with lighter trim details made of Sycamore. Tires are wood, painted matte black, and wheels are hand laced wire in wood rims. The Alfetta is priced at £395 (approx. $500 USD). In Memoriam - Mike Rabin
Sept 27, 1927 to April 19, 2019

The vintage automobile and automobilia world has lost one of its greatest and most innovative characters.  Mike Rabin, founder of LmaRR Disk, passed away April 19, 2019 at the age of 91 due to complications from a bad fall.

Mike was first and foremost “a people person”; making friends, living, walking, reading and sharing his love of cars with everyone around him. He was a “regular” vendor at “Automobilia Monterey” every year in August.  He is survived by his wife Maria, his sister, 2 children and 4 grandchildren.

He had a love affair with the automobile.  Drag racing in his teens, a 123 mph race at El Mirage during the dry lake period and more.  He served in WWII, worked as a butcher and the plastics business. He owned a 1940 Ford Coupe, 1948 and 1952 Jaguar XK120s, and a Rolls-Royce 10/25, which was the start of forming his innovative business making designer wheel disks.  

He put together the molds, the spinners and the time to recreate the artistic original wheel disks for that first Rolls.  Correctly termed: Wheel Covers, Hub Hardware and Backing Plates, and NEVER referred to as lowly hubcaps.  LmaRR Disk was the only supplier worldwide for these visually important and artistic “wheel covers” with over 95 types produced, used for restoring some of the greatest classic cars, from Bugattis to Minervas to Mercedes-Benz and Hispano-Suiza.

Mike worked with many famous people including Jay Leno and Ralph Lauren who commented, “Thank you, the wheel covers worked well. We got first prize.”

In Memoriam • Gerald Wingrove

We received late word that world renowned master model maker Gerald Wingrove passed away in March of this year. 

After a long career building sought after highly detailed scratch built models, Gerald and his wife Phyllis retired in Spain in 2004. We understand that Phyllis passed away last year.

One of Wingrove’s loyal patrons was the late Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, the founder of England’s National Motor Museum. Lord Montagu was the first person to commission a model car from Wingrove for his National Motor Museum at Beaulieu.

​Wingrove was most well known for his fabulous 1:15th scale miniatures of classic cars, especially his Duesenbergs. His models have appeared in numerous automobile magazines around the world, and can be found in some of the most prominent private collections. He built approximately 220 automobile models during his long career as a master model maker.
